Described as "The Queen of Harps", Catrin has delighted audiences with her performances in the UK and worldwide and has performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras. Inspired to learn the harp at the age of five, her first major competition success came in 1999 winning the Lily Laskine International Harp Competition in France.
Catrin is the former Royal Harpist to H.R.H. the Prince of Wales.
Catrin’s recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations was released by Deutsche Grammophon in 2009 and entered the UK Classical charts at number 1. In November 2012, a new CD featuring music by John Rutter and ‘Celtic Concerto’ by Catrin herself will be released on the on the DG label. Her versatility in different musical genres is demonstrated in her many recordings, which range from solo classical recitals and concertos, through to an eclectic cross-over mix and presentation of some of Wales’ most popular traditional melodies in an innovative and refreshing way using electric harps, state of the art technology and ground-breaking sound effects.
2012 highlights include performances in North Carolina, New York, Hong Kong and Australia, concertos with the European Union Chamber Orchestra and the BBC NOW, premieres of two new harp concertos written for her, and a tour with Malian kora player, Toumani Diabaté.
Known for her work within the community and with the younger generation, Catrin is committed to promoting the harp and classical music in general to a new and wider audience.
