Mumbai Ghazal singer Tauseef Akhtar was introduced to Cardiff-based Welsh singer-songwriter Gwyneth Glyn through their mutual mastering friend Donal Wheelan. With support from Wales Arts International the two artists came together to explore their musical affinity. Over six days in Donal's Round House, Ghazalaw was born.

In November 2012 Gwyneth travelled to Mumbai with Welsh harpist Georgia Ruth Williams to develop the songs further with Tauseef and other Mumbai-based musicians. Ghazalaw performed in Mumbai, at the Desert Festival, Delhi and featured at the Indiearth Exchange in Chennai. With support from the Arts Council of Wales the musicians returned to the Round House in January 2013 to record an album of songs which were warmly received by audiences at the Hoddinott Hall, Wales Millenium Centre, in Ghazalaw's premier UK performance.

The band is now in discussion with major labels in India and Wales regarding the release of their eponymously titled debut album, Ghazalaw.
